Description

Are you looking for a complete, phonics-based reading intervention resource to boost your students who aren’t yet reading at grade level? This Phonics-Based Reading Intervention Bundle makes it easy (and fun!) to get your students up-to-speed with reading and spelling.

Time to implement interventions is often limited, so this resource is:

  • No-prep: just print and place student pages in binders, or staple packets together
  • Flexible: you can decide how many activities to complete per day based upon how much time you have
  • Structured and consistent: when students know what to expect, intervention time goes more quickly and smoothly
  • Data-driven: assessments are provided after instruction on each phonics pattern, so you’ll know when students need further practice or when you can move on

To begin using the Phonics-Based Reading Intervention Bundle, you’ll print out the teacher manual pages or plan to access them digitally. You’ll also print the student pages and place them into binders with page protectors, or you’ll staple packets together for the students. The only other materials you’ll need are writing utensils, dice, and counters.

In each intervention session, you can choose how many total activities students complete (it’s easy to stop and resume practice another day). The teacher manual will tell you exactly what to do and say. For some of the activities, you can get students started and then attend to another task or provide individual support while the rest of the students continue working.

This reading intervention tool includes intervention lessons and activities for:

  • Letter sounds
  • Short vowels/CVC words
  • Beginning and ending digraphs
  • Double final consonants
  • Beginning and ending consonant blends
  • Glued Sounds
  • Long vowels with silent e
  • Inflectional endings
  • R-controlled vowels
  • Vowel teams
  • Closed syllable exceptions
  • Diphthongs

For each phonics pattern, students will practice:

  • Identifying pictures that have the target sound
  • Tracing (with a finger and writing utensil) the letters for multisensory practice
  • Blending to read words with the target phonics pattern
  • Using magnetic letters or paper letter tiles to build words with the target phonics pattern
  • Reading real and nonsense words with the target phonics pattern
  • Reading sentences containing words with the target phonics pattern and simple high frequency words
  • Reading and answering questions about a decodable passage for the phonics pattern

Phonological awareness practice is embedded in the practice activities (however, the primary emphasis is on having students read and write words).

In addition to these routines provided for each phonics pattern, there are bonus games and activities to extend students’ practice.

You can follow the order of the packet for a suggested sequence, or you can easily cover specific patterns out of order depending on your students’ needs.

FAQ

My file isn’t printing correctly. How do I fix this?

The vast majority of printing problems can be fixed with the “Print as Image” solution in Adobe Reader! Learn more about how to do that here HERE.

Where can I learn more about your literacy products and how to use them?

We have a free catalog that walks you through my main resources. It can help you decide which resources are right for you and your students! You can grab the catalog HERE.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?

Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!

I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?

Our Canadian customers tell us that it’s best to purchase one grade level down. If you teach first grade, for example, try a Kindergarten product. You can also check the preview file of any resource in our TpT store to see example lessons to help you make your decision!

These games are great! I love that there is an assessment with it so I can really see what skills my students need more practice with. Once they learn the games they are able to do them independently as well.

I used this resource when a couple of my students picked decoding multisyllabic words as their goal. This really allowed them to work on their goal independently! I loved that they were able to own their learning.

My students love these games for small groups, and once some of them are able to play them independently, they are able to teach others! Great academic skill review that is fun for them!

My students loved this addition to our reading workshop. We use this as our opening task as the activities are quick, very targeted in terms of phonics skill, and fun! Thank you!

I have been using these resources for two years now. They align with the program my school uses and are solid supplements to use with small group instruction. I have used the games in class and then students often take them home for extra practice. I like that many of the games have a similar format, so once students learn the game, I don't have to teach them a new set of directions for each new pattern. They can just grab and go!

This was a great total system to help my struggling learners. I like the predictable nature of the sequence, my students started knowing what t do on each page. Well made and easy to use!
